Maine Media Women's 2004 Scholarship has been awarded to high school senior
Kathleen Ross of Deering High School in Portland, for
her leadership in media and the 'Blunt Youth Radio Project' she has been
working on since freshman year.
This year Maine Media Women presented a $700 scholarship.
The 2004
President's Award was given to author Tabitha King by
out-going MMW president Ria Biley, for a combination of literary and
philanthropic excellence. Accepting for King was her sister Stephanie
Leonard, (right) who
addressed the conference eloquently on King's behalf.
A new award was given for the first time at this year's conference:
the KVA Scholarship, in memory of Karen Van Allsberg, a MMW member who
passed away in recent years. The award of $1500, which honors Karen's
love of photography, went to Natalie Hyde of North Carolina, who will
be attending a portraiture course at the Maine Photographic Workshop
in June.
